Zither
This zither has metal frets for playing different notes on three of its strings, and another four "drone" strings that don't have frets. Metal strings are looped onto a nail at one end and have geared tuners at the other for easy, accurate tuning. The body is a hollow box with four soundholes. This one appears to be factory made.

Zithers like this are played on the lap or a table. Strings are plucked with a pick by the right hand, and pressed onto frets with a stick held in the left hand.
