African trumpet

This trumpet is made from one piece of heavy wood, carved with decorative patterns and writing. Trumpets are usually blown from the end, but this one has its mouthpiece cut into the side.

There is no mechanism for changing the pitch however trumpet players can usually make different notes by changing the tension of their lips.
