WELCOME TO MUSEUM MAGNET SCHOOLS
Museum Magnet Schools have a special relationship with the Queensland Museum. Students and teachers work with objects in the classroom. Like researchers, they collect objects, study them to derive knowledge and present their findings through exhibitions and publications.
Teachers and museum educators are excited about this process because object-based learning:
- Provides a focus for learning
- Stimulates interest and investigation
- Motivates students.
The Museum Magnet Schools project began as a collaboration between:
- Four Queensland, Australian Museum Magnet Schools
- Two Washington, DC, Museum Magnet Schools
- The Queensland Museum (QM)
- The Smithsonian Institution (SI)
- Education Queensland (EQ)
- The Queensland Department of the Premier and Cabinet.
This exciting project helps teachers bring the expertise of QM and SI into their classroom to create learning environments that challenge and extend our students. It also encourages schools to seek the support of their local communities to enhance and maintain the program.
